The departments of Mathematics and Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics are part of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences, a joint research institute in the Edinburgh Research Partnership collaboration between Heriot-Watt and Edinburgh Universities. The Department of Computer Science is an active member of the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance, a major Scottish Funding Council supported research pool.

MACS is based in Heriot-Watt's main campus in Scotland's capital city; if you've visited Edinburgh, you'll know that it really is a great place to live with its unmatched selection of cultural activities. The School has around 140 staff and 1,000 students - about 200 of these are working towards a Masters Degree and another 70 are preparing for a PhD. See our timeline.

The School occupies two adjacent buildings on the campus, the Earl Mountbatten (EM) and Colin Maclaurin (CM) buildings. The School office is in EM1.24 and is open 9.30am - 4.30pm.
